Gendai Reiki Ho: The Spirit of Usui Sensei and the Truth about Traditional Reiki

I am presenting here a part of «Message from the Author»:

«Even though the Usui Reiki Ryoho is practiced throughout the world, in Japan, after the Second World War, the name Reiki had been buried and completely forgotten. In the West, it was said, “In Japan, Reiki Ryoho disappeared after Japan lost the war,” and “Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, which inherited Usui Sensei’s tradition, no longer exists.” The same was said within the circles of Reiki reintroduced to Japan, and until recently, nobody questioned whether it was true.

In the late 1980s, a method of Reiki known as The Radiance Technique® returned to Japan. When I studied this technique, we were told that Reiki had disappeared from Japan. However, it seemed to me that although the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, the original organization founded by Mikao Usui Sensei to disseminate Usui Reiki Ryoho, the Reiki method he had created, may have disappeared, there still had to be people around who had studied there. I sought information in many places but, unfortunately, discovered nothing and had to conclude that traditional Reiki had indeed disappeared.

Later, in July 1993, I took part in a healing seminar. It so happened that the elderly lady with whom I was partnered was also a practitioner of Dento Reiki, the traditional form of Reiki promulgated by the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. It turned out that the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai had existed all along, and its 80-year-old tradition was still being handed down by Kimiko Koyama sensei, president of the association at the time.»
